About this watch
Description
The Omega story began in 1848 at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, when its founder Louis Brandt at the age of 23 opened a comptoir d’établissage, a sub-contracting sales office for watch manufacture. In 1880, due to the greater supply of manpower, communications and energy, Louis-Paul and Cesar Brandt moved into a small factory in the city of Bienne /Biel. With the introduction of their first series-produced calibers, Labrador and Gurzelen, in 1895 the watches achieved a precision of within 30 seconds a day.
Four years later, Louis Brandt & Fils became the largest producers of watches in Switzerland, with a production rate of 240,000 watches produced annually and employing 800 people, but this fact did not stop the exclusivity of the watches they produced: a clear example is the minute-repeating wristwatch, developed in 1892 in partnership with Audemars Piguet, and probably the first wristwatch of its kind. The famous Omega caliber became a brilliant market performer when it went into production in 1894. Its major points for saleability were in its easily interchangeable parts and its simplicity of construction. The company’s banker, Henri Rieckel, suggested the name “Omega” for the new watch. The overwhelming success of the “Omega” name led to it being adopted as the sole name for all the watches of the company from 1903.
Today, seven out of ten people throughout the world are familiar with the Omega watch brand – a truly amazing rate of awareness to which few other watch brands can lay claim, not to mention the watch worn on the first walk on the moon!
Here we have a particularly attractive, Omega Cal.267 Hand Wound Gents Dress Watch in 9ct gold from 1958. This watch is in immaculate, fully restored condition throughout.
The Movement
The Omega Calibre 267 17 Jewel copper beryllium movement here, looks spectacularly pristine and our watchmaker has commented that this particular movement has been very lightly used and very well cared for. It is marked – 17 jewels – and with the serial number 16,629,156 which dates the watch to 1958. The movement winds, runs & sets smoothly and is in superb working order and keeping excellent time.
This watch has been fully overhauled and serviced by our vintage Omega specialist watchmaker and is calibrated to run arrow straight within + 6 second / day! This is no exaggeration. We have seen the test results from an electronic watch test instrument and in its half wound state this watch is running accurately within 6 seconds per day! We are therefore more than happy to offer a 12 month warranty on the movement of this watch*.
The Dial
This Silver-White dial has the most attractive classic at ‘6’ subsidiary seconds dial configuration, with alternating applied 2 -4 -8 – 10 -12 gilt numerals and dagger hour indices. This is the original dial which has been restored by our Dial Restorers who are one of the best, if not the best in the UK. Original Dauphine hands complete the dial and a new lens has also been fitted.
The Case
The 9ct yellow gold case measures 34mm in diameter, not including the original Omega signed crown. It is in immaculate condition with no dings or scratches visible to the naked eye. This high quality Dennison watch case is signed 13339 A.L.D. Dennison Made In England, Omega Watch Co. 9 .375 with Birmingham U.K. Hallmarks. A word on our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.
We are happy to accept PayPal as this is the quickest method of payment. However if you would like to pay by UK cheque or by bank transfer we will be pleased to assist you with this and pass on a 3% saving to you.
