A rare Gents Large 34mm, Rolex Oyster Perpetual (automatic), Black Dial ‘Air King’, Super Precision in 9ct solid yellow gold from 1957. The watch is on its original matching Rolex 9ct Bracelet and has its original high grade Cal.1530 high grade movement covered by a screw down case back and operated by a Rolex Oyster screw down crown. This watch has many desirable aspects to it and most of all the model has a great history behind it! Rolex watches were considered the watch of choice by R.A.F. Battle of Britain fighter pilots and because of this, the Rolex founder, Hans Willdorf, decided to honour “The Few” with a wide range of Rolex ‘Air’ designs. These were the Rolex Air-Tiger, Air-Lion, Air-Giant and Air-King. The Rolex Air-King has remained in production through many variants until this day and therefore is considered an ideal entry level Rolex for people willing to make a significant investment in vintage Rolex.
The Dial
The original Air-King ‘3 6 9’ dial, rarely found in black, with raised gold crown, and spearhead batons, and hands all restored to the very highest standards. With the raised gold Rolex crown at 12, the dial is signed ROLEX, ‘Oyster-Perpetual’ and ‘Air-King’ and Super Precision. The wonderful original gold ‘Dauphine’ style hands and gold ‘needle’ seconds hand are all in superb condition. The dial also has an outer seconds track which is subdivided into halves of a second. Marvellously, this is matched by the movements of the seconds hand, as it subscribes the dial.
The Case
The 9ct solid yellow case is in excellent condition with no marks dings or scratches visible to the naked eye. It measures 34mm in diameter not including the Rolex crown. This watch has the Oyster (screw down) crown. Inside the screw down case back are found the model and case reference numbers are along with Geneva Swiss 9ct hallmarks along with no fewer than three Rolex signatures. The case has been professionally cleaned and very lightly polished and is looking superb.
The Movement
The high grade Cal.1530 automatic movement has just been serviced and is running perfectly. It is signed Rolex, Geneva Twenty Five Jewels and 1530. This particular movement is in superb condition and with regular servicing, say every 3 to 4 years we would fully expect this watch to run quite happily for another lifetime! The movement has been thoroughly inspected, cleaned and fully serviced by a highly qualified Rolex watchmaker. We are therefore very confident in offering this watch with a 12 months warranty*.

The Bracelet
The watch comes with its original matching Rolex 9ct ‘Jubilee’ style 9ct solid gold bracelet which is in superb condition. The bracelet is signed ROLEX and is stamped with the Rolex crown and Geneva 9ct hallmarks. The ‘Jubilee’ style bracelet is light in weight and full in size, up to 8 inches wrist size and so it can be worn loose or it is adjustable by up to three quarters of an inch by use of the very secure clasp. And by removing two or three links which is simple matter for any good jewellers, it can be tailored to your ideal size. Alternatively a high quality, new crocodile, padded strap will be fitted with an original solid gold Rolex buckle.
The Box and Papers
Although there are no original papers with this watch, the numbers and markings on the watch are all correct dating the watch to 1957. A detailed written receipt, with a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale. The genuine vintage Rolex box shown in the accompanying photographs is offered with the sale*.
