About this watch
Description
This is a superb example of an early 18ct gold Omega Seamaster DeVille, Gent’s dress watch from 1957. This watch has several notable features, – namely a two piece monocoque case which was designed to increase the water resistance of the watch. It has a rare silver ‘linen’ dial which is in top original condition and a rare original Omega Calibre 560 movement, of which only 3,000 examples were made. This was split across 9 Omega models making each, in effect ,a “limited edition”. By far the majority of these were made in steel and few were made in 18ct gold, making this a particularly rare and interesting watch.
The Dial
The dial is a rare silver ‘linen’ effect and in superb original condition. We have tried to capture this as well as possible in our photographs, however it looks much better in real life. Please view all the photographs carefully to see that the dial is consistent throughout and any dark patches and lines seen on some photographs are caused by shadows and diffraction through the watch lens.
The dial is in what we define as “top original condition”. By this we mean that only under high magnification can some slightest signs of ageing be found. It is far too good to restore and so we have left it completely alone.
The dial carries a date function and the hands are each in top condition. The lens is a new o.e. Omega armoured Hesalite lens, signed with Omega logo in the centre.
The Movement
This watch carries its original high grade, advanced Cal. 560, 17 jewels automatic movement which is in sparkling clean condition. As indicated above, this movement is rare and makes this watch particularly collectible. The movement has been given a full overhaul, including a service by our watchmaker. The movement carries the serial number 15,5xx,xxx which dates this watch to 1957. The full serial number and full particulars of the watch will be detailed on the sales receipt, along with our 12 month warranty and Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee. *We are happy to provide a 12 month warranty on this watch, provided the list price is paid.
The Watch Case
The watch case is an advanced one piece design plus the bezel, which helps keep it water-tight.** The case is in superb condition, having no marks, scratches or nicks visible to the naked eye. The Seamaster emblem to the rear of the case is particularly pleasing as it is clean and crisp, showing no signs of wear. This indicates the watch has seldomly been worn.
** The water resistance has not been tested and is not guaranteed. – Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.
Strap & Buckle
A modern, high quality, black, crocodile watch strap has been fitted, along with a gold plated Omega buckle. If a different colour or style of strap is preferred, we will do our best to provide your choice at no extra charge.
Box and Papers
Although there are are no original papers with this watch, the markings and serial number are all correct, dating it to 1957. A detailed Vintage Gold Watches Certificate will be provided with the watch, along with a detailed written receipt with our 12 month warranty and Vintage Gold Watches ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’. The vintage Omega presentation box in the photographs, is also included in the sale of this watch.
In Conclusion
This is a superb example of the iconic Omega Seamaster watch, which is particularly interesting and rare!. The movement is of a very high grade and on a par with watches far more expensive than this. Indeed when new, this watch would have cost more than the equivalent Rolex. Omega Seamaster watches are highly collectible and the rarity of this watch means the value will always remain strong.
