About this watch
Omega
Omega’s pioneering spirit has taken its watches to the Moon, helped conquer the oceans’ depths and allowed us to time the world’s most important sporting events. At the same time, Omega has set precision records and has continuously re-defined state of the art watchmaking since 1848.
This watch benefits from the same exacting standards of precision and design applied to all Omega watches, meaning one can expect and rely on the same accuracy and dependability we have come to expect across the Omega range. Its movement, 18ct gold case and original dial have just been simply polished.
Description
A wonderful example of the sought after Omega De Ville, here in 18ct yellow gold with an original, unrestored dial which is in wonderful condition.
The Dial
The beautiful, original silver-white dial carries the traditional Omega styling cues. Gilt ‘baton’ hour indices, matched by the original black ‘index’ hands, with black onyx inlaid batons at 12, 3, 6, and 9. The dial carries the Omega brand and signature brand with the ‘De Ville’ script just above ‘6’ and ‘Swiss Made’ at the very bottom.
The dial is original, unrestored and untouched. It is in superb condition, with no fading, staining or scratches, just a little spotting, visible under close examination in certain light.
The Movement
The high grade Omega Calibre 620 hand-wound, copper-plated beryllium-bronze movement is in absolute tip-top sparkling condition.
The movement has been fully overhauled by our vintage Omega specialist watchmaker. This means disassembling the watch movement down to all its component parts, careful inspection under high magnification, replacement where necessary with only genuine Omega parts, then careful reassembly and adjustment before final calibration and testing. This watch winds, sets and runs perfectly accurately and reliably within +14 seconds per day, averaged over 5 positions and this has been checked and confirmed on our electronic watch timegrapher. Please bear in mind, this performance is outstanding for any watch, particularly of this age. The movement also has a 42-hour power reserve when fully wound. We are therefore highly confident in offering 12 months’ warranty with this watch movement*.
The movement is signed ‘Omega Watch Co Swiss’, ‘17 Jewels’, and Cal.620 with the serial number 25757890, which dates the watch to 1967.
*Please note – our 12 months’ warranty is only applicable if the list price is paid.
The Case
The sturdy 18ct solid gold case measures 28mm in diameter, excluding the Omega signed crown. This is a good sized watch for a lady.
Inside the case-back, all the markings are correct and as we would expect with The Omega Watch Co. triangle, along with 18ct London UK hallmarks which date this watch to 1967. The case-back carries the Omega model reference number 511261.
The case has been cleaned, carefully inspected and carefully hand-polished, which was all that was required to bring it back to its current tip-top condition with no scratches dings or marks of any kind visible to the naked eye.
As always, our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.
The Strap and Buckle
The watch is fitted with a high quality black alligator strap and plain gold-plated buckle. However, if you have a preference for another colour or style of strap, please do let us know and we will do our best to supply and fit your preferred strap for no extra charge.
The Box and Papers
Although there are no original papers with this watch, the movement, case numbers and hallmarks all match, dating the watch to 1967.
Detailed particulars will be included with the receipt, along with our 12 months ‘ Warranty*. A separate insurance valuation for the replacement value of this watch will be provided at the time of sale along with our unique ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.
The hardwood presentation box shown in the photographs is included in the sale.
In Conclusion
A truly beautiful top of the range, 1960s 18ct yellow gold Omega dress watch in wonderful condition. If you are looking for a great example of Omega’s balanced approach to dress watch design, then there are few better examples than this.
In addition to being perfectly practical for everyday use, this watch will make an excellent investment and heirloom piece, as well as be something wonderful to wear, treasure and enjoy! Even though vintage gold Omega watch prices continue to climb, we still feel sure that top class examples are underpriced. This is because as time passes and the world market for vintage gold Omega watches continues to grow, the finite supply means prices will inevitably climb ever higher. We promise you will be so pleased you bought this watch!
A word about our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before restoring these to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach inevitably means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are a number of well-known stores in West London which are very successful, charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.
We are happy to accept PayPal as this is the quickest method of payment. However, if you would like to pay by bank transfer, we will be pleased to pass on a 3% transaction saving to you.
