About this watch

Omega

Since the company was founded in 1848, Omega has pioneered a huge range of innovations. Britain’s Royal Flying Corps chose Omega watches in 1917 as official timekeepers for its pilots and again in 1940, RAF Pilots watches were supplied by Omega. The 1940s also saw the first tourbillon wristwatch and the first of the famous Seamaster watches, whilst the 1950s and ’60s introduced the legendary Constellation, Speedmaster, Seamaster 300 and Railmaster. Over the years, everyone from John F. Kennedy to Elvis wore Omega watches on official duties. What’s more, in 1962, astronaut Wally Schirra took his Omega Speedmaster to space on NASA’s Mercury Sigma 7 mission, and in 1969 two Speedmasters landed on the moon, worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Description

Here we have a stunning Ladies Omega 9ct yellow gold watch, complete with its original full-length flexible woven link 9ct Omega bracelet. The watch case is just 23mm x 23mm and contains a fully signed quartz movement. This watch was made at a time when Omega was at its peak in terms of the quality of its watches and this is a superb example, especially when found as here, in 9ct gold with a bracelet in such tip-top condition. This beautiful watch also comes complete with the original Omega presentation box and the original Omega papers.

The Dial

The beautiful, original, unrestored and untouched honey dial carries the traditional Omega styling cues. The original black ‘index’ hands are matched with the gilt stud hour indices with a diamond ’12’. All of these wonderful features make the watch very easy to read when upon the wrist.

The dial carries the Omega brand and signature brand with ‘Quartz’ just above ‘6’ and ‘Swiss Made’ at the very bottom.

Usually, we restore the dials of the watches we sell, however, we decided in this case, due to its unique condition, to retain its originality and charm for the many collectors who prefer this. This watch has a clean original dial with a very even patina. It also helps to contrast with almost all of the other watch dials you see on our website, which have been restored.

Please note, studio lights, professional-grade digital cameras, and macro lenses can be very unkind to an unrestored vintage watch dial. Also the dial here measures less than 1.25 inches across, so the image you see here may be between 5 – 25 times larger than the watch itself. Therefore please keep in mind you are seeing many tiny flaws which cannot be seen, or will be very hard to see with the naked eye, even under close examination. Suffice to say, on the wrist, in natural light, this dial looks much better and carries a great deal more charm than the photographs portray.

The Movement

This incredible watch carries a fully signed quartz movement. It is signed with ‘Omega’ and the serial number 13538. The time can be set by pushing and holding the crown, the hands rotate around the dial, then simply let go when you are at the correct time. You can also move the hands on my one minute by pushing the crown in gently and releasing.

*Please note – our 12 months’ warranty is only included if the list price is paid.

The Case

The solid 9ct yellow gold, two-piece watch case is of sturdy solid construction and is in immaculate condition. The case is a good size at 23mm across, including the crown.  This is a noticeably heavy gold case and integral bracelet. The case has been cleaned, carefully inspected and gently hand-polished by our watch-case-maker and there are no scratches dings or marks visible to the naked eye.

The case is signed ‘Omega’, ‘Swiss Made’ and carries the serial number 591 8881, along with Swiss Geneva 9ct hallmarks.

As ever, our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.

The Bracelet

The original integral woven link Omega 9ct bracelet is in close to ‘as new’ condition and is of its original full length and is adjustable between 18.4 to 19.1cm. This equates to  7.25″ inches to 7.50″ inches i.e. a small to medium size ladies wrist.

The bracelet is adjusted using the three-step Omega ladder locking catch. The bracelet has simply been cleaned and lightly polished to bring it back to the condition you see here.

Please note –  this bracelet can be tailored free of charge by our watch case maker, if required, once purchased.

Box and Papers

The original papers that are included, correctly date this watch to 1981.

A separate insurance valuation for the replacement value of this watch will be provided at the time of sale along with our unique ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than 100% genuine, authentic and original, a full refund will be given at any time”.

For those who happen to visit London on occasion, we are, of course, more than happy to store your watch until we can meet you in our offices in Kensington, London, and hand your watch directly to you there.

As with all our watches, this watch will be sold under our 14 days no-quibble sale or return policy.

In Conclusion

A rather special and rare vintage gold ladies quartz watch from one of horology’s most famous names, which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as be something to treasure and enjoy! If treated with care it will make an excellent investment or family heirloom piece. Even though vintage gold Omega prices have risen markedly in the past 12 months, we still feel great examples such as this are still undervalued, because as each year goes by, the world market for vintage Omega watches is expanding almost exponentially, so we think prices are destined to climb ever higher in the foreseeable future.

A word on our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post-sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well-known stores in West London which are highly successful charging between two to three times the price you see here. We, therefore, consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

Please note, we also welcome part exchanges. If you have a watch or a small collection for sale, please contact us as we will be happy to discuss this.

We will also be happy to Service your watch, Repair your watch or Restore your watch, all at ‘sensible’ prices. Please see here.

If you have any questions please call us on 020 7727 7095 or if calling from overseas on +44 207 727 7095.

Please take a look at our other fine vintage gold watches.

Thank you
