About this watch
Description
Here we have a beautiful and rare vintage gent’s Omega automatic dress watch in 9ct yellow gold, complete with its original full-length flexible woven link 9ct Omega bracelet. This watch case contains the very high-grade Omega Calibre 561, 24 Jewel automatic movement which is very highly regarded for its accuracy and reliability. This watch was made at a time when Omega was at its peak in terms of the quality of its in-house movements. This is an amazing watch, especially as found here with its case and bracelet in such superb condition.
Dial
The yellow dial has a vertical grain which catches the light beautifully. As can be seen in the images, it subtly changes colour depending on the direction of the light, from a slightly greenish yellow, through yellow, to a rich yellow gold. It is very simple and elegant and carries applied gilt baton hour indices which are inlaid with black onyx. These are matched with the original ‘Index’ style hands.
The dial also carries the applied Omega brand at the top of the dial and is signed ‘Omega’ and ‘Automatic’, with ‘Swiss Made’ at the very bottom.
The dial is totally original and unrestored and yet it remains in tip-top condition.
Movement
The watch carries its original high-grade Cal.565, 24 Jewel movement, which is highly regarded for its accuracy, robustness and reliability. The movement has been fully overhauled and serviced by our vintage Omega specialist watchmaker. This means it has been completely disassembled, cleaned, inspected and rebuilt using only original Omega parts where necessary. It is in sparkling clean condition and following final adjustment and calibration, this watch is running to within +8 seconds per day, which is outstanding for any vintage watch of this age! When fully wound, this movement has an excellent 50-hour power reserve. The movement is all correctly signed ‘Omega Watch Co’, and ’24 Jewels’, with the calibre number 565 along with the serial number 33,592,876, dating this watch to 1972.
These movements are strong, accurate and very reliable, making the watch perfectly appropriate for regular everyday use. This movement is in top condition and with regular servicing, every 3 – 4 years, we would fully expect this watch to run very happily for many more decades to come! We are therefore more than pleased to offer a 12-month warranty on this watch movement* and regular servicing in the future.
*Please note – our 12 months’ warranty is only applicable if the full list price is paid.
Watch Case
The solid 9ct yellow gold, three-piece watch case is of sturdy solid construction and is in immaculate condition. The case is a good size at 34mm in diameter, excluding the original signed Omega crown and measures approximately 40mm across the diagonal. This is a noticeably heavy gold case and integral bracelet. The case has been cleaned, carefully inspected and gently hand-polished by our watch-case-maker and there are no scratches dings or marks visible to the naked eye.
Inside the case-back is signed Omega Watch Co, with the serial number 3625420 and UK London 9ct hallmarks, dating the watch to 1972.
As ever, our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.
The Bracelet
The original, integral, heavy woven link Omega 9ct bracelet is in close to as new condition and is of original full length at 18cm to 19.5cm. This is adjusted using the three-step Omega ladder locking catch. The bracelet has simply been cleaned and lightly polished to bring it back to the condition you see here. This watch and bracelet will fit an average to a slightly larger sized wrist, however, it can also be tailored by ourselves, free of charge, following the purchase of the watch.
The Box and Papers
Although there are no original papers with this watch, the reference numbers, markings, signatures and hallmarks are all correct, dating the watch to 1972. Detailed particulars will be included with the receipt, along with our 12 months’ warranty*. A separate insurance valuation for the replacement value will be provided at the time of sale and our ‘Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee’ which states: “If this watch proves to be anything less than totally authentic, or not as described, Vintage Gold Watches of London will offer you a full refund at any time”.
The watch also comes complete with a matching vintage Omega presentation box.
In Conclusion
A rather special and rare vintage gold gents automatic watch from one of horology’s most famous names, which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as be something to treasure and enjoy!
This is a truly top class example, in immaculate condition with an original dial. The watch is ready to wear and totally practical for everyday use. If treated with care it will make an excellent investment or family heirloom piece. Even though vintage gold Omega prices have risen markedly in the past 12 months, we still feel great examples such as this are still undervalued, because as each year goes by, the world market for vintage Omega watches is expanding almost exponentially, so we think prices are destined to climb ever higher in the foreseeable future.
A word about our prices – We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before restoring these to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach inevitably means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are a number of well-known stores in West London which are very successful, charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.
