About this watch
Description
In almost new condition this is the iconic top of the range Omega Constellation, from 1968 in solid 18ct solid gold, with an 18ct solid gold dial and in a substantial 36mm diameter case, not including the Omega Crown. The watch has the Omega Constellation emblem on the back which is still crisp and only very lightly worn. It also has a screw-back case with seal in place (originally) making it water resistant to 30 metres*.
The Dial
This is the rarer and much more exclusive solid gold dial (18ct) which is original and in superb unrestored condition. It has a raised gold OMEGA logo + name Constellation, plus ‘Automatic Officially Certified Chronometer’ at 12 o’clock – below 6 – ‘Swiss Made’ at bottom. Raised, applied gold batons with black inserts – the original gold hour, minute and sweep seconds hands are in excellent condition – the glass is clear and in new condition. Please take a close look at the photos of this fabulous dial… note any imperfections are caused by the camera and lighting.
The lens is clear, unscratched and original, – carrying the tiny Omega symbol in the centre of the lens, which you may just make out in one or two of the photographs.
The Case
This superb condition, lightly polished 18ct solid Gold case with waterproof screw down case-back* – measures approx 42mm lug to lug and 35mm diameter not including the Omega signed crown. On the inside of the case-back bears the Omega Watch Co. triangle and name Omega Watch Co along with 18K-0.750 and two Geneva hallmarks for 1968. One of the lugs also bears an 18K hallmark – The case-back carries the reference numbers 168009 and 168017.
The case has been professionally cleaned and polished and has no scratches or marks or dents of any kind. The back has the famous Constellation logo which is in highly original, lightly worn condition – See photos for details of this superb case, especially the Constellation on the back. Being 18ct gold this is usually worn to a greater or lesser extent and sometime missing completely! Here it is present and still distinct and crisp.
*Originally specified as Water Resistant to 30 metres. This has not been tested and is not guaranteed.
The Movement
This is the very high grade, ‘Officially Certified Chronometer’, Calibre 751, Omega automatic, copper toned (and looking pristine), 24 jewels movement with serial number 27658776 which makes the date of manufacture 1968 – The movement winds, runs & sets smoothly and is in very good working order, keeping good time – Signed Omega Watch Co Swiss – Twenty Four 24 jewels – and Cal. 751 Adjusted 5 Positions.
This is a quick-set movement which means you simply need to pull the crown out one further click to move on the date one day. The you push the crown in slightly before pulling it again to do the same.
The watch was fully inspected and serviced in mid-March by one of the best watchmakers’ in London. These watch movements are known for their exceedingly strong accuracy and reliability and it is currently and calibrated to run arrow straight and accurate to within + or – 5 second / day! This is no exaggeration. We have the test results from an electronic watch test instrument and in its half wound state it is running accurately to within 5 seconds per day!.
The Strap and Buckle
The watch is complimented with a very high quality ‘croc’ leather strap – with an aftermarket gold plated Omega buckle (not shown in photos). If you have a preference for another colour or style, please let us know and we will do our best to supply and fit your preferred strap for no extra charge. (If a new Omega strap is preferred, this can be fitted for an extra £45.00)
