About this watch

Description

A 14ct Rolex Precision dress watch from 1955 a with a most elegant and clean dial design in white with simple applied gilt arrowhead indices, matched by ‘leaf’ hands and centre sweep seconds. This watch is of a good size with a beautiful 33mm 14ct yellow gold case which was  considered a larger sized gentleman’s dress watch in the mid-1950s. The quality of the case construction and beauty of the dial means this watch really is, a touch of class!  The final highlight of this watch is the condition, which is amazing!

The Dial

This dial design is of the ‘less is more’ school and is very simple and yet it just works so beautifully. Unusually modern for the period, with the Rolex crown at 12 o’clock and simply signed ROLEX rather than the more usual ROLEX and PRECISION. This has, we assume, been omitted to keep the dial as simple, clean and elegant as possible. It works, leaving the 11 slightly bold, gilt arrowhead indices to add the style the dial. These are then matched by 2 slightly smaller arrowhead indices at ’12’. The original gilt ‘Leaf’ hands with sweep seconds hand are original as is the original dial which has been restored to the very highest standard, by the best dial restorers in the UK.

The Case

The 14ct solid yellow gold case is equally beautiful being of a two piece design and of unusually high quality construction.  The case has a slightly wider bezel than is usual and an unusual rounded almost bubble, case-back. The watch has been amazingly well cared for and so the case has simply required a very light clean and professional polish. There are no scratches, dings or other blemishes visible to the naked eye. The press fit case-back clicks into place very satisfyingly and has never been inscribed. The case was made in New York by DiVincenzo & Arienti  and is signed 14K Gold D&A on the outside of the case-back between the lugs.  The centre of the inside of the case-back is signed with the early Rolex crown and scroll, also with 14K Gold D&A below and then the case reference number 08267 below.

The Movement

The high grade Cal.1210 17 Jewel hand wound movement is in sparkling condition. It has just been overhauled and serviced by our expert watchmaker and is running perfectly. It is signed Rolex SA, Geneva Swiss and Seventeen Jewels and marked with the Calibre 1210. In addition it carries the reference number N61226. This particular movement is in superb condition and with regular servicing, say every 2-3 years, we would fully expect this watch to run quite happily for another 60+ years! We are therefore very confident in offering this watch with a 12 month written warranty*.

Strap and Buckle

A high quality, new reddish brown ‘croc’ water resistant leather strap is fitted with a gold plated buckle. If a different colour or style of strap is preferred, we will do our best to provide this at no extra charge.

Box and Papers

Although there are no original papers with the watch, the numbers and markings are all correct, dating this watch to 1960. A detailed written receipt with 12 months warranty* and a separate insurance valuation for the replacement value, will be provided at the time of sale. The presentation box shown in the accompanying photograph is included in the sale.

In Conclusion

We love to find and make available vintage gold Rolex watches of this quality and restore them to ‘almost new’ condition! This is a superb, highly collectible and usable vintage watch from horology’s most famous name, which will provide an excellent financial investment as well as something to treasure and enjoy! It will make an excellent evening wear dress watch as well as a practical, highly accurate and reliable timepiece to use on an everyday basis.

A word on our prices. We always try our hardest to acquire the very highest quality watches we can find, before then restoring them to the highest possible standards. We then offer these at the fairest prices we can, taking into account our pre and post sales care and service. This approach means we will never be the cheapest, but nor will we be the most expensive. Indeed there are some well known stores in West London which are highly successful, charging between two to three times the price you see here. We therefore consider our prices to be fair, given the quality of watches we have to offer.

We are happy to accept Paypal as this is the quickest method of payment. However if you would like to pay by UK cheque or by UK bank transfer we will be pleased to assist you with this and pass on a 3% saving to you. Similarly if you wish to pay by International SWIFT or Bank Wire Transfer we will provide you our BIC / Swift number and our IBAN number.

Delivery is free within the UK and we charge only £45 for world-wide delivery via Fedex.

*Note – 12 Month warranty only included if the list price is paid.
